Mercy Medical Center is a 152-bed, acute care hospital serving Nampa and the surrounding communities in southwestern Idaho. Mercy, as part of Catholic Health Initiatives, is one of the largest not-for-profit health care systems in the country spanning 31 states and more than 70 rural and urban communities, encompassing more than 60 hospitals and more than 50 long-term care facilities. Founded the House of Mercy on Baggot St. in Dublin,
Ireland in 1827.

Founding Sisters of Mercy,due to lack of space,
lived for two years in a “canvas convent” tent.
During the influenza epidemic of 1917, the Sisters
cared for their patients in this eight-room house that served as the Nampa General Hospital while they
lived in the“convent” tent.


In 1919 a new 50-bed hospital was built on Holly St. and named Mercy Hospital.

Dr. George O. A. Kelloggwas a pioneer doctor and instrumental founder of Mercy Hospital. Later he became the Chief of Staff at the Training School for Nurses.

In 1920 the Sisters of Mercy established the Mercy School of Nursing at Misericordia Hall in Nampa. Sister Mary Alphonsus Mulryan, one of the original “tent sisters,” was the first director.

The current Medical Center was built in 1968.
Today Mercy continues to pioneer the most advanced healthcare in the spirit of the Sisters of Mercy.

Mercy North Health Center, Mercy’s sister campus,
was built in 1998. Mercy North provides a wide spectrum of outpatient services.

The mission of Catholic Health Initiatives is to nurture the healing ministry of the Church by bringing it new life, energy, and viability in the 21st century. Fidelity to the Gospel urges us to emphasize human dignity and social justice as we move toward the creation of healthier communities.
