Description
The Writers Group, a unique part of The Washington Post, is a newspaper syndicate that edits columns and cartoons of some of the biggest names in the business and markets these features to 1,200 publications around the world. The Writers Group is a small, fast-paced organization where all employees share in accomplishing a variety of tasks to ensure an efficient work flow of the office.
Responsibilities Include:
- Billing (accounting/database entry in Oracle);
- Contact delinquent accounts/reconcile accounts;
- Maintain/manage accounts in bankruptcy;
- Assist Accounting with identification of payments (checks, wires, etc.)/tracking down misapplied payments;
- Retrieve correspondence from Accounting lockbox weekly;
- Order office supplies;
- Compose/mail rejection letters in reply to column submissions (monthly);
- Answer phones and customer service requests/queries;
- Open/distribute mail daily; retrieve packages from mailroom;
- Weekly UPS Outlook section to London;
- Other administrative tasks.
Days & Hours: Monday -- Friday 9:00 am - 5:30 pm

Requirements
- Accounting/collections/data entry experience a must;
- Attention to detail and strong organizational and administrative skills essential;
- Ability to work as a team player and contribute to general office operations;
- Ability to communicate with writers, cartoonists, newspaper editors and readers, frequently by phone;
- Ability to juggle many assignments at once and work in a high-energy environment;
- Knowledge of the newspaper business and its rhythms are important, but not an initial requirement;
- Experience with various software: MS Word, Access, Excel, Adobe Photoshop
